It’s been a while since I’ve posted a Frankensteining the Talent Pool idea, but hubby and I have been watching YouTube videos and this came to me last night after watching some Devin Townsend, Disturbed’s “Sound of Silence,” and Venus Hum’s Blue Man Group performance of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love.”
One of our favorite musical acts is the Devin Townsend Project, which features Devin Townsend (obviously) and Anneke van Giersbergen on vocals. Hubby and I think this is one of the best vocal pairings ever in terms of how strong Anneke and Devin’s voices are and how well they blend.
Devin Townsend Project’s music is on constant rotation in our house, so it is top of mind pretty much always.
While we were watching YouTube last night, we caught Disturbed’s “Sound of Silence,” which showcases lead singer David Draiman’s rich voice. I turned to hubby and said, “Wouldn’t it be interesting to hear Draiman and Townsend sing a song together?” There it is, a Frankensteining of the Talent Pool.
And then we watched Blue Man Group and Venus Hum paired up to perform Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love,” with Venus Hum’s singer Annette Strean give a delightful and strong vocal rendition of the song. I can see Strean performing with Townsend or van Giersbergen or Draiman, so there are multiple instances of Frankensteining the Talent Pool here.
But, might it not blow our minds further to have all 4 of them perform together in some kind of mad, vocal genius quartet?
