A couple of months ago, I cleaned out the fridge and discovered a vibrant blue-green and white mold on some spaghetti sauce.
Obviously, this container got shoved to the back of the fridge and wasn’t seen for a while.
The mold against the red sauce makes for a striking and artistic contrast.

If you look at a closeup of the mold, you can see that it has a fuzzy, almost cottony texture.

It’s not fun to have food mold in the sense that the food goes to waste, but it is fun to see a natural science experiment develop in the fridge.
While typing the captions for the photos, I noticed that I took them on March 17 – St. Patrick’s Day. I guess the greenish color of the mold was appropriate to the day. 🙂

Lol… this is great! Who among us has not seen the classic mold on tomato anything? Your photo reminds me of a particular jug of Western Family salsa which lasted over 8 years until we finally finished it. I had the thought to transfer to a smaller, cleaner container but I also know that disturbing food’s natural environment can invite pathogens.
I love how you can turn the most mundane into a good story for everyone to enjoy. Thank you
p.s. I had a good laugh at the examination room window.
I’ve seen that a few times in my fridge too. LOL!
Thanks, Pamela and Joan, for the confirmation that moldy food can actually be an interesting subject. 🙂
Glad it gave you a good laugh, Pamela!
