Over the past week or so, I have been culling my book collection. Before I did, I took photos of the bookshelves in our house and counted all of our books.
As you can see from the photos, we have books all over the house.
In my initial count, I found 691 books in the house. I had no idea there were that many. Most of them are mine, but Hubby and Young Son Number Two also have books in the mix.
As I was writing this post, I realized I had forgotten a book. I have my laptop propped on a dictionary in order to raise it closer to eye level. Okay, so that 692.
And then I remembered I had a bunch of books related to fiber arts in my blue metal fiber arts supplies cabinet.
That’s what got me to 708.
I suspect I might be missing some that are tucked away in boxes, but I’m not going to worry about that right now. Hubby and I are scaling back so we can sell our house and move, a move that is prompted by my new job, which starts in mid-February.
After almost 29 years in one house, the amount of stuff we have accumulated is overwhelming. We will be very busy beavers over the next several months, so my blogging may be spotty or brief.
While it is always difficult to let go of books as a book lover, I actually find culling books to be the easiest part of downsizing. I know there are always more books to acquire and it’s pretty easy to send books along to thrift stores or library used book sales. I was also able to restock my book giveaway box with the books I’ve culled. May all of these books find good homes.
Have you ever taken the time to count all your books? How many do you have?
Hi, Mary. I am pretty close to that number as well. We’re in the process of moving to Michigan so I’m hoping to purge or ‘cull’ some books. Hope all is well!
Hi, Angela – When it comes to books, there’s always room for one more! Good luck on your move to Michigan. We’re facing The Great Uprooting just now and it’s quite daunting. Otherwise, all is well. I will have to tell you about the new job I took once I get settled in. I think you’ll find it interesting. 🙂
