Performing Dryer Balls

Because of the strong scent of dryer sheets, along with the fact that they are made of some sort of plasticky material (do these things ever break down?), we have taken to using wool dryer balls in our dryer. We throw 4-5 of them in to cut down on the static.

Hubby is not crazy about them because he hates hunting for them in his clothing, which for me is kind of the charm of them. We tend to throw them back into the dryer as we fish them out of our laundry.

Our dryer recently gave up the ghost, with the heating element failing. It was a used dryer we got from a Habitat for Humanity ReStore and it served us very well for several years.

During one of my last runs with the dryer, I peeked inside to see if there were any clothes to be removed before I threw a load in.

Imagine my surprise when I saw only 2 dryer balls in the bottom of the dryer, not our normal 5. Could 3 of them have rolled away on the floor somewhere? Did they get taken upstairs with a load of laundry?

I searched but couldn’t find them.

I was ready to throw my load in with only 2 dryer balls, having given up the search.

When I opened the dryer again, I looked up slightly.

Here’s what I saw:

The three missing dryer balls were sitting on one of the fins inside the dryer. It’s as though they were acrobats (The Flying “Wool”lendas, maybe?) and this was part of their act.

Here they are again, looking down at their mates at the bottom of the dryer.

Five dryer balls in dryer, three sitting on a dryer fin, two sitting on the bottom of the dryer. November 22, 2020.

The smallest things amuse me.
