Olio: a miscellaneous collection of things

My latest internet explorations ….

5 things the media does to manufacture outrage by Parker Molloy

How to Respond to an Active Shooter from the ALICE Training Institute – It pains me that we live in a society where this information is necessary, which I noted in a Facebook post about the shooting at the Colorado Planned Parenthood. My sister-in-law passed along this link, saying that school districts get this sort of training.

“The Greenest Building is the One Already Built” from Preservation Alliance Minnesota – This plays off the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” advice Gen Xers were taught when they were kids, only for buildings instead of trash. For too long we have pretended our buildings are disposable.

15 utterly incomparable sculptures of the past and present from Bright Side – Kyle Fokken, an artist friend of mine, shares the most fascinating arts-related links on Facebook. He passed this one along recently. Check out his work … sculptures of fantastical imaginative vehicles … on his website.

The Definitive Manifesto for Handling Haters: Anne Lamott on Priorities and How We Keep Ourselves Small by People-Pleasing – Writer Ann Lamott discusses dealing with internet trolls in this post from Brain Pickings. I love this line: “As I’ve said a hundred times, if people wanted me to write more warmly about them, they should have behaved better.”

What interesting things have you found online lately? Please share.
